Workshop Details

Learn the basics of natural dyeing in a workshop facilitated by artist Katerina Gribkoff. We will be using vegetables from the farm and plants grown in Katerina’s dye garden. Participants will learn the basics of natural dyeing from foraging for dye plants and extracting colour to treating fibres and making patterns using resists.

We will discuss things like ethical foraging habits, how to make colours last longer and appear brighter, ways of slowing down the process and decreasing energy use, and where to source materials locally. Katerina will bring many samples of dyed fibres, alternative materials, and artworks coloured with plants for participants to look through and get inspired.

Each attendee will leave with a dyed tea towel, samples of dyed fibres and yarns, a booklet of information, and tips for moving beyond dyes to make inks, pigments, and stains. Participants will also receive a dye plant seedling to bring home.

To Bring

Please dress for the weather as we will be outdoors during the day (woodland and fields) so bring sunscreen/walking shoes wellies/raingear/re-usable water bottle etc
